Light watts. Height. Help!.

I have a grow light science grow 200. 200 watts from the wall. On a watts meter. Has a excellent dimmer switch from 5% to 100%. I'm at 36 inches with 60 watts on two seedling's 2 days old. How low can it hang from them?. Is it to high?. More watts?. I'm a noob. Help!. TIA.:)

I think your seedlings will need more light. At only 60 watts you can get your light much closer. I use an app on my phone (PPFD Meter) to measure the light level at the top of the plant. With this it is easy to work the balance between power and height since you are measuring how much light is getting to the plant.

Optimal temperature for photosynthesis occurs at a leaf surface temperature of 86, given all other things are in harmony this will optimize photosynthesis. Depending on your environment aim for ambient 77 lights on, top of canopy 85, if in doubt use temperature as a moderate gauge for the distance to the grow light. Perfectly fine at 36 inch for seedlings as the manufacture recommends, this won't push the seedling though. Dont worry too much with exact numbers, ask the plants and let her tell you, see what her leaves tell you. Enjoy brother.
